"Fancy getting outside with the kids and helping nature on your doorstep? Come along to our FREE event for families and plant some new hedgerow to bring in the new year.
This event is organised by Kids Plant Trees, in partnership with Sheffield City Council's community forestry team and kindly funded by South Yorkshire Woodland Partnership.
Where: Parkwood Springs, Sheffield, S5 8WX Planting location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/41qUqqx6p4kYLwcW7
When: Sunday 19th January 2025 2 x 1-hour sessions starting at 11am and 1pm (please select the session you want to attend when booking)
What: Hedgerow tree planting, refreshments, and good ol' nature-based fun for all the family!
Families can have a go at planting a few young trees together, guided by our tree expert, Tim Shortland. All equipment will be provided. Refreshments provided - hot and cold drinks, and biscuits.
What you'll need: Please wear suitable clothing for staying warm, and possible wet weather. We strongly advise wearing sturdy, waterproof shoes such as walking boots or wellies. Please bring a reusable cup for drinks if you can.
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Why are we planting new hedgerow? Hedgerows provide a vital food source for invertebrates, birds and mammals, create corridors between areas that wildlife can travel along in relative safety, and are important for nesting animals. The hedgerow will also protect the wild areas that have already been established, which are another vital habitat for a wide range of animals.
Getting here: The nearest entrance to the planting site is on on Musgrave Road (see location on Google maps) where there is free street parking.
You can also get here by bus - the 83 and 32 buses from the city centre stop a 5 minute walk way (see directions on Google maps)
Accessibility: Please note, the site is not wheelchair accessible. Access is via a small kissing gate, with a 3 minute walk from entrance to planting location, on uneven gravel path (some slopes).
Booking: This is a free event but we ask that you book a ticket for every person coming along (except babes in arms), so we can bring enough refreshments. If you book tickets but are then unable to attend, please let us know so that we can reissue the tickets.
We welcome any donations to support our community and school projects, helping children and nature to thrive together. Thank you."
