Come along and help local running group York Knavesmire Harriers run their annual Brass Monkey Half Marathon which starts at York Racecourse. This is a very popular race with a great atmosphere and lots of local runners. There will be a variety of roles, from indoor tasks such as baggage drop to outdoor jobs such as marshalling, car park marshalling and manning the water stations. It is expected that volunteers would need to be available from 8.30am. The race starts at 10am and should be finished by 12.45pm. Please comment here if there's a particular role you'd like to do and I will try and accommodate people's preferences as much as possible.

If you sign up before 11/10 then you can pre-order your T-shirt and collect on the day when you pick up your hi-viz.

UPDATE - Most of you GoodGym folks will be on the water station (Team 1) at approximately 3.5 miles from the racecourse (5.6km) so you will need a bike or other transport to get out to that point (unless you fancy a long run/walk - but please do allow enough time). Please let me know if this is an issue as I think there may be someone driving out there that could give lifts if needed. It is water station 1 & 3 as the runners pass it again on the way back and the water station moves across the road. The race starts at 10am and should be finished by 12.45pm. Please note that there are no toilets out on the course and do wrap up warm.

Here is the information from the organisers (York Knavesmire Harriers):

Please meet at the racecourse at 8.20am at the Marble entrance for a briefing, collect your t-shirt (if pre-ordered) and hi-viz vest and leave the racecourse at 8.50am to go and set up the water station.

This year the Marshal/Volunteer check in will be in the Marble Arch entrance hall of the racecourse (what3words: ///calms.fallen.burns). We have over 200 amazing volunteers signed up, therefore this will avoid congestion in the county stand entrance.

We’ve got something new this year — a cozy staff room for all volunteers and marshals! 🥳. It’ll be in the Marble Entrance, right next to our check-in area. It’s a safe and warm spot for you to take a break and leave your belongings. We’ll have hot drinks ready for you. ☕️ 🫖 And if any of you love baking, feel free to bring some treats or homemade goodies to share! 🧁🍪

Don't forget to check-in at the volunteer desk first in the Marble Entrance, and get your free t-shirt if you pre-selected a size (if you didn't pre-select a size then wait until the end of the race to get one).

We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday!
