Support This Girl Can and Let's Lift the Curfew

Sport England's This Girl Can campaign seeks to change how women think and feel about sport & physical activity and encourage women to be active in ways that work for them, regardless of age, background or ability.

Let’s Lift The Curfew launched in 2023 to showcase women’s stories and concerns around getting active outdoors in the darker months when the clocks go back, as well as calling on wider society to acknowledge their role in making getting active outdoors safer for women.

This year, This Girl Can is looking to go bolder and bigger, so they are supporting GoodGym to help transform the campaign into an annual movement that can raise awareness and take critical steps towards making outdoor exercise safer for women.

How to support the campaign

Read up: GoodGym has also produced training for male allies to help contribute towards women’s safety at night that would be good to circulate with any male members.

Clothing considerations: Front and rear runners should ideally wear high-visibility, brightly coloured clothing. Where possible encourage members to use reflective clothing and have some members use headlamps or handheld lights for visibility.

Sharing the event: Use #LetsLiftTheCurfew in all social media related to your event. We'd love to see running leaders and members livestream and post videos and pictures from your LLTC run using the hashtag to build momentum across social media.

Back to The Thorlands!

We have been drafted in to support our friends over at GG Southwark with a task that falls on our boundary. The goal is to continue with the Thorlands community garden project. We'll be continuing in the "Forest" garden, we could be:

Putting down woodchip for the "Forest" path Potting plants in the "Walled" garden Planting saplings or shrubs in the "Forest" garden Digging up acanthus and bindweed roots in all gardens Mulching with cardboard and semi-composted material Adding/managing the compost pile Shaping shrub canopies New to GoodGym?

Not to worry, it can be daunting coming to your first group run, but we are so welcoming whether you're just starting out as a runner or have been running for years. We welcome all!

Here's the important information - the "Where, When and What":

📍 We meet at Papa's Park in Brixton from 18:45. You can also meet us at the task: Thor Lands Gardens, Elsinore House, Denmark Road, London, SE5 9EJ at 19:15.

⌚ 18:45 (leaving at 19:00 latest). If meeting at task, be there for 19:15. We will be back in Brixton by 20:30 (latest).

✅ There will be access to Papa's (car), so you can drop your bags before we head out.

🏃🏃‍♀️ After a quick warm-up (maybe), we run together as a group. If there are loads of us, there will be a back marker to ensure no one is left behind. On this run, we will be running 3k each way. Running at a medium pace to get to the task in 15-20 minutes. We will spend 45-50 minutes doing the tasks mentioned above (or as much as we can) before running back to finish by 20:30.

Advisable: Bring 🧤 gardening gloves and headlamps.

There's space to change and leave bags and a toilet. We're not planning to do anything purposefully dangerous, but GoodGym takes no responsibility for your safety during group runs, you participate at your own risk. Participants accept full responsibility for items stored at Papa's Park, and Papa's Park & GoodGym will not be held liable for any losses / damages.
