GoodGym Confirmed 'Core Partner' for Manchester United Stadium
Landmark partnership pushes the boundaries of practical volunteering
April 01, 2025
In a groundbreaking move GoodGym has secured a long-term partnership with Manchester United football club.
When the new Manchester United Stadium was announced last month there were many unanswered questions, particuarly around cost. With construction company Laing O’Rourke estimating the total bill for the new stadium could reach £2 billion, Manchester United were reported to be scrambling to reduce the mammoth price tag. In a move that has blindsided the construction industry, GoodGym, with their 15 years experience of ‘practical volunteering’ will be deployed to build the stadium completely.
“I see no reason the stadium can’t be built almost entirely on good deeds!” GoodGymer, Manchester
A member of GoodGym Manchester reported feeling ‘optimistic’, stating “we’ve built many a bug hotel before, and painted a few classrooms so I can't see this being any different. I see no reason the stadium can’t be built almost entirely on good deeds!”
The source, who did not wish to be named, did express concerns around the tiresome health and safety that could come with such a project. “It will be difficult to keep to my usual running pace in those steel-capped boots, and don’t get me started on those hard hats, how am I meant to run in that!?”.
Despite some details needing to be ironed out, work is set to begin imminently. An investigation revealed Manchester United purchased 10,000 trowels, 20,000 gardening gloves and 5,000 head torches at an amount “considerably less than £2 billion”.
After construction, GoodGym will remain a core pillar of regeneration for the stadium and the surrounding area. GoodGym will grow and maintain the green spaces surrounding the stadium grounds whilst providing on-the-go meet and greet opportunities for fans as their favourite players attend weekly sessions to complement their training.
Player contracts will also reflect the new partnership. Alongside traditional bonuses given for appearances, goals, clean sheets and trophies, the squad will also compete for bonuses tied to good deeds. Despite suspected backlash from players, their response has been overwhelming in support of the new partnership, with many excited by the prospect of connecting players, fans and the community in the regeneration of Old Trafford. Although unconfirmed, reports suggest many players plan to further support GoodGym by setting up a monthly donation.
A key part of the deal sees GoodGym secure naming rights for the new stadium. Current focus groups have voted "DoGoodGetFit Stadium" as the clear winner so far.
While the idea may sound strange, GoodGym does have history supporting football clubs. GoodGym Luton has been supporting The 61 FC for almost 2 years, completing a number of good deeds including decorating the changing rooms, renovating the paths around the ground and painting railings. With considerable experience in the sector, GoodGym Luton's expetise was instrumental in securing the partnership between GoodGym Manchester and Manchester United. It's expected an advisory board containing many Luton GoodGymers and industry giants will be created to oversee key parts of the project. The 61 FC are currently bottom of Division 2 in the Spartan South Midlands Football League.
