Night of the 10,000m PB’s
One of the hottest dates for the running calendar returns…
April 20, 2022
We are pleased to announce the return of the well-loved Night of the 10,000m PB's. The annual event where everyone involved is part of the action.
It’s back…
The Night of the 10,00m PB’s.
A volunteer-powered annual celebration of 25 lap racing returns after two years laying dormant due to lockdowns and restrictions.
But return with a passion it does, with this year being the most promising ever.
The event, taking place on the 14th May in London's Hampstead Heath, promises spectacular entertainment with the event attracting great running times and even greater spectator magic.
Never shy of admitting the impact of the cheers and applauds, the organisers boast the importance of having crowds to keep the pace going.
“Racing atmosphere is pivotal to performance and enhancing it became the event mission.” says Ben Pochee, Race Director.
With numerous attractions to enjoy, Night of the 10,000m PB’s offers many attractive experiences for spectators and participants alike, including:
- #Lane3BeerNCheer ethos
- Circus entertainment
- Lactic tunnels of love
- Home-straight pedestrian bridge
- Infield spectating
- Live music
- Circus Theatre show
We spoke to Ben Pochee, Race Director and asked him a few questions.
Thanks for talking to us, Ben. Great to see that the event is taking place this year! It mustn’t have been easy to have lost two years of this great event. How does it feel for 2022 to be the year of its comeback?
"Night of the 10,000m PBs always aimed to raise a toast to the close knit friendships created within a grassroots community, so for 2022 yes it does feel even more special now we all have lived a life denied those networks that can define us. So the feeling is fantastic to plan another 25 lap celebration of our sport, and post the pandemic restrictions the freedom to share simple pleasures with your own community becomes an even more treasured sensation. On May 14th we party!"
And, for those who haven’t heard of the event before, can you give us a quick rundown on what Night of 10,000m PB’s is all about?
"Imagine watching olympians run 2 x parkrun aka 10k in the middle of Glastonbury -or think epic fast runners being inspired by your vocal chords as you stand in lane 4 of the track just inches away from them chasing a pacing light in a bid to represent their country at the World Championships.
Or if it helps please see a short video montage - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haloirUkqUU "
GoodGymers are obviously extremely passionate about getting outdoors and doing good, how does Night of the 10,000m PB’s echo the importance of keeping fit and supporting others too?
"Our event is not for profit and is organised by volunteers, so in many ways shares values with GoodGym and I like to think it symbolises the power of a community coming together to make magic happen and in our case the magic is creating a free spectacular event to inspire youngsters and also help athletes reach their true sporting potential. Highgate Harriers is a community club created way back in 1879, so for nearly 150 years it has offered a platform for Londoners to share a fitness journey, so outdoor sporting accessibility is at the core of our event and our club."
For our GoodGymers who are tempted to attend, what do you think would best appeal to our community, what can they expect to experience?
"Passion, excitement and a sense of being part of something unique. GoodGymers will be helping to make possible memories for a lifetime and maybe even inspiring them for what is possible."
"The event is also going out live on the BBC so at the very least we can maybe offer you 15mins of fame!"
So, you heard it here first. The Night of the 10,000m PB’s is an event we shouldn’t be missing out on!
Did we mention that spectator cost is zero, that’s right, free!
And if that isn’t good enough, the location is fantastic too. The track can be found in Hampstead Heath, so why not make it a day-long event and add in a walk and/or picnic too?
