A spade of sludge is just enough to give a GoodGymer a treat, it's full of nitrogen goodness for all the plants to eat...

Three GoodGymers joined three volunteers from the utterly amazing Litter Clear Volunteer who are a powerhouse of amazing people led by Vicky, who work on a huge variety of public sites, streets and patches of land around south Liverpool. They work hard to clear litter, and spruce spaces up by creating pathways, flower beds, painting street furniture etc.
For this session we joined them to help clear old neglected flower beds and make the space a little more enjoyable for the local residents. Someone had used the space as a dumping ground for old garden waste and we came across a rather rich smelling mound of what can only be described as sludge (it was the kind of smell that stays in your nostrils for days!) We decided this was full of nitrogen and other planty goodness so used it to feed the soil ready for planting another day!
We continued clearing and cleaning until it became much too dark to carry on, so feeling rather pleased with how much we had managed to achieve, we all headed home and just about managed to miss the rain!
