Back to black...(with some persistent green)
6 GoodGymers made their way 4.0km to help their local community in Newham.
- Wednesday, 4th of February 2015
A dedicated of handful of locals went out with their GoodGym spirit to brave the runny nose inciting weather.
Our task this week was to get one of the containers at View Tube ready for an upcoming exhibition with a new coat of paint. Our warm up was swift and inclusive of that drill…you know the one with a simultaneous high knee and butt kick all whilst moving forward….’oh yeah that one’ 3 weeks and counting of working at this, newbie Emma jumped straight in and looked like she just had the knack.
Several drills later, heart and blood pumping we had done enough to make the mammoth 0.6km jog over to ViewTube. The key was to now keep the blood pumping whilst painting. Black paint, multi coloured walls, 6 painters…Let’s do it! We all spread out learning from our previous mistakes of painting hi and low, no one did any edges with a roller directly above; instead we let the rollers steam roll through first. Precision…tick, Good speed…tick, Painting over the high viz green….ermm half a tick. Alice coined the name Persistent Green for the last wall, known for it’s stubbornness. It’s vibrancy did not go quietly under the black paint as it just seemed to keep reappearing with each stroke. A few extra brushes chipped in and we got it.
Thank you to Andy, and Andy’s parents for giving him the height that enabled him to reach all the areas us 5”6 and under folk couldn’t reach.
Once the container was blacked out from end to end, we took a 'don't look cold' group picture and made our way to Victory park for some speed work. The carefully placed apparatus over there were perfect for foot work drills alongside a healthy dose of sprints. We managed to clock up super speeds of 2.43km/min.
Well done guys, same time next week
Kirsty
