Bagman and Robin
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hammersmith and Fulham.
- Saturday, 1st of July 2017
I met a surprisingly un-tired and even more surprisingly early Mark outside Mr F's house to do what we thought was just a spot of light weeding. Mark had run all the way from East Dulwich to Hammersmith to take on his second task of the day - way to go!
Mr F - a very polite and lovely man - met us at the door in his wellies, all set for work in the garden. He showed us through to his back garden, and my-oh-my there wasn't a spot of any colour except green. He had been letting the greenery grow and grow to keep the birds happy - and one of these birds, a lovely little robin, came to spy on us while we disrupted his small kingdom (poor robin!).
We tore down all the ivy, dug up tonnes of weeds, and even un-earthed some grasshoppers (which the robin loved), woodlice, spiders and snails. All of this (not the animals...) was packed into 11 very full bin bags for the council to collect.
As you can see from the photos we made a big difference in the short time that we were there. Mr F is loving the new look of his garden and he can't wait for some runners to come back and finish the job.
