Barking Mad
5 GoodGymers made their way 1km to help their local community in York.
- Wednesday, 7th of February 2018
5 GG Yorkies met at Acomb Wood on a cold but beautifully sunny day. We were joined by Beki, who is part of the Community and Environment Team at York City Council. The Council had very kindly donated a big pile of wood chip.
Ellie and Huw had already been to Acomb Wood and started work on moving the wood chip, but there was still a long way to go. The aim was to shovel it into wheelbarrows, then move it about 200m down a path and deposit it around the base of the trees there, in the hope it would help enrich the soil. Egg, Huw and Barbara did some wheelbarrow running reps, just to get some extra meters in!
Ellie was very conscientiously keeping the wood chip pile tidy, whilst Egg found a hollowed out tree trunk and settled inside for a rest. It didn’t take long for the mountain of wood chip to be completely re-sited, and whilst we were doing that Beki was busy litter picking and generally making the area look tidy.
Lots more tasks to come from the Community & Environment Team, so keep your GoodGym ears to the ground!!!
