8 York GoodGymmers spent this evening speed shifting bark chip in Danesmead wood.
We arrived and were given the grand tour of 3 different paths and 4 lots of barkchip - no mean task, particularly when many of the team were slotting it around their evening activities!
After some amount of dithering over which paths and which piles to prioritise, we divided into two teams and got stuck in. Tim and Katie down one end with a couple of Danesmead volunteers, the majority of us at the other end with a second pile, Debs singly taking on the role of chief rake.
Tim, having later joined us, informed us he was working flat out at all times.
Shortly after Tim defected to our neck of the woods, we cleared our woodpile, if anything slightly too enthusiastically...
"I went too deep!!" Tim
Unfortunately there was still a couple of metres left of unbarked path! Horror! Thankfully Carl took executive control, as a friend of Danesmead Wood, and lead us to another pile for the last 3 barrow-fulls. Debs carefully sculpted them into a taper meeting the path to seem more welcoming.
"Don't walk there, come walk down me..." the path, via the medium of Debs
We returned the equipment, going via the paths so Debs could measure them out (164 Debs-metres, if you're curious) and were rewarded for our efforts with delicious cake. A splendid end to a kob well done!
