Bed and shoulders
4 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Southwark.
- Saturday, 21st of March 2020
Today I met up with Marta, Jean Christophe and Victoria for a mission in Southwark for Ms S. This was Victoria's first ever mission (woot! 🎉 woot! 🎉): Be sure to give her a cheer for being awesome! 😄
Ms S has limited mobility and already spends a lot of time at home following a hospital release a month or so ago (you can read how GoodGym helped to effect that here). As it's likely that her time at home will increase over the next few months, GoodGym were asked if we could remove a couple of items of furniture for her so that she can have more living space.
After saying hello to each other, disinfecting ourselves and putting on some disposable gloves, we said hello to Ms S and got started.
This was a double-bed task: Our total job today was to completely remove a dismantled bed and a sofa bed from Ms K's living room for a council pickup.
Being sensible people, we started with the easy job of removing the dismantled bed, and made it look even easier by strolling with the pieces. A strut makes everything look simple 😎 With the extra space created, we spun around a few more items of furniture to make room to manoeuvre the sofa bed and started phase II!
As the universe was smiling kindly on me today, I had very little work to do in moving the sofa, but rather spent my time moving items out of the way (mirrors, pictures, walking sticks, etc.) and taking pictures. It was rather lovely actually. Everyone else looked much more engaged with the process, Jean-Christophe managing to use almost every part of his body from his feet, to his shoulders (I mean, technically he used his mental acumen/head as well, but I'm going for the physical more than the metaphysical here).
Regardless, everything got moved. We were happy. Ms S was happy. The sun appeared to blind me in the traditional selfie. All good stuff :)
Guys, it was good working with you and congratulations on your first mission, Victoria. Hope it's the first of many! Since I won't really be able to come into London to do them for the foreseeable future, please do lots of them for me! 😄👍🏻
