What a pleasure was today's mission. Out in the fresh air, in a peaceful, calm environment, surrounded by nature. Bliss!
Pupils at Windmill Hill Primary School are fortunate enough to have access to this special space and have, in the past, worked with the Woodland Trust to raise awareness of the need to protect and look after our open spaces.
During Lockdown, restrictions have meant that the forest school area has become somewhat neglected and overgrown.
Clearing standing deadwood, building bug hotels and hedgehog homes, stacking logs, picking litter, and creating a log circle.. these were just a few of the tasks done today, making a forest school area cleaner and safer for when pupils can return to the woods.
Alongside the practical lifting and shifting, I began recording the flora and fauna in the woods. These photographs will be used as a teaching resource, helping pupils to identify and protect the species living and growing in this special, magical space.
