Call of Duty: Modern Doorbell
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Hackney.
- Monday, 20th of April 2020
I headed to the address I was given for Ms S at the time allotted for the mission with the caveat that the team hadn't been able to get in touch by phone with her to confirm, and therefore she wouldn't be expecting me. I was most relieved that the buzzer was answered (on the second attempt) and was able to enter the compound and get buzzed into her block so I could head to her door, with minimal wait.
It transpires she had been asleep and I'd woken her up with the doorbell to her flat. Whoops! As much as I felt bad for waking her, I have much respect for someone that also enjoys an early evening nap. I was also most pleased to be able to speak to her and see that she was coping reasonably well given the circumstances.
It transpired that she wasn't in need of any immediate help, and had a well stocked fridge combined with a small appetite so politely turned down the offer of a shopping trip for anything she may need. But I was able to ascertain that there was something she was hoping to get arranged so took a mental note to convey that back in a follow up to the mission, and I hope that she'll be able to get the appropriate care that she needs at this time.
Fortunately she also confirmed that while her phone hadn't been working it was fine again now, so hopefully she'll be able to avoid being woken up unceremoniously by the buzzer for any future visits!
