Last night's run was our first from the glistening Reebok Sports Club in the centre of Canary Wharf.     Our mission was to move about 1.8 tons of compost from one side of a community garden to it's rightful place between some pallets.  In our way was a falling down green house and a lack of shovels. The run there took us out of the high-rise towers of Canary Wharf and down Trafalgar Way past Billingsgate on our left.  We then navigated the Colton Street underpass and headed up the alleyway on the south side of DLR tracks taking us to within reach of Erno Goldfingers grade II listed Balfron Tower at the base of which Greening Brownfield have established their garden in an disused tennis court. We made quick work of the first task of clearing about 18 sacks of rubble from the first part of the garden.  The second task was more tricky, re-organising the composting materials took 25 of us the best part of half an hour. While some of the group wrangled the green house into shape, others looked for more spades and containers, once clear we took about 20 mins to get the huge pile of earth back into position. We used everything we could find ranging from a trolley and wheelbarrows to plant pots. Those digging looked like they got a pretty thorough work out. Those not thoroughly knackered enough, took a longer route back along Limhouse Cut and back along the Thames. It looks like there will be more runs from the Reebok Sports Centre.
