Compassion is the number 1 ingredient
5 GoodGymers made their way to help the Bethnal Green Food Bank in Tower Hamlets.
- Wednesday, 6th of October 2021
- Led by Laura Williams
GoodGym Tower Hamlets members Simon H, Simon L, Eva, Beth and Aine delivered parcels to local people in need of the organisation's support alongside regular volunteers, and helped the task owners to count the stock in the storeroom.
The five had made their separate ways to Raines Foundation School where Bethnal Green Foodbank is set up in operation, by foot and bicycle and were actively helping this charity to support the people of our local area at a time when food supplies and basic household needs can be hard to come by.
For some GG members, working at home or sitting all day in an office can present its challenges, and others have challenging caring committments, but we talked about how attending a regular communal activity where we get to help other people and make local connections can be a highlight of the week (as well as a get-out-of-jail card for those 5pm meeting invitations! ).
GG social committee member Aine reminded regulars talked about on Thursday's pub trip to The Dundee Arms (https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/it-s-in-cambridge-heath-road-not-dundee), and arranged to meet a brand new recruit at the following weekend's hike to Seven Sisters (https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/hike-the-beautiful-seven-sisters-a8e9d8b6-5118-4df1-b5b5-57c1c9cf89e3) - all over a friendly pint in the local Approach Tavern (where we have just secured a Bethnal Green Food Bank group discount!!)
