A fantastic 32 Goodgymers ran 4km, collected tons of leaves for Cecil Sharp House and got fit with Stephen King!
Thank you for coming along and making it a busy evening of fun, goodness and fitness!
This week Stephen King (Sheffield Trainer) was in charge and we gave him a big GGC welcome!
In the news this week:
- Sheffield GoodGym is launching on Monday 31st October, spread the word to any mates local to there and go visit sometime soon!
- This week was #runandtalk at GoodGym. With the aim of getting people to talk about mental health, raising awareness about problems and supporting people experiencing mental health problems to be physically active through running.
- Nathan Glover is organising a huge Zombie Run on Halloween week, more details will be in the email and you can register here.
After a cracking intro speech by Stephen he took us on a great warm up before we headed to Cecil Sharp House. We visit this task on a monthly basis and there is always tons to do!
A sea of red runners bounced through Camden, chatting about #runandtalk and races in the future, including Race the Train next August.
King for one day
We arrived at the task and decided to split the group in half - the first doing the fitness session and the second doing task - and then switching after 20 minutes.
I went on Stephen's fitness session with the first group and corrr it was good'en! It went something like this:
- Circle of run fun - one person running around at all times while the rest of us did conditioning exercises.
- Balancing work - two different exercises for this.
- Run - press ups - run
- Linked arm circle, doing quick feet and jump squats in sinc
- Run - burbies - run
- Linked arm circle again
- Shuttle runs using lights
Then the groups switched with myself (PB) taking the fitness session and Stephen being in charge of the task.
Task Report by Pritesh Mistry:
At Cecil Sharp House autumn has taken hold and the trees are shedding their leaves! Whilst this is great there's an element of too many leaves and so we were tasked with raking the lawn and sweeping the paths of leaves, twigs and other autumnal detritus.
We split into groups with some rakers, some sweepers and everyone else gloving up and just picking up what we could. After all our efforts we were rewarded with a much cleared garden and bags and bags of leaves.
Don't leaf me now
After a wonderful group pic and cheering about Cecil Sharp's Award we then ran back to base in the rain.
Make sure you spread the word about Sheffield GG and raise awareness about mental health.
Next week we will be packing 2000 condoms for Terrence Higgins Trust in preparation for World Aids Day, sign up here.
PB out.
