Over the Christmas period, I donated much of my time to volunteering for Crisis in their hotels and day centres. The aim of their Crisis at Christmas campaign is to support guests struggling with homelessness by providing accomodation, care and a warm welcome over the festive period. This includes housing some people in hotels in the short term, where they receive a safe place to sleep, food, support and medical care, whilst they are assigned case workers in the longer term who work with them to support their journey out of homelessness. From doing the late night gap duties (ensuring security for the building), to wrapping hundreds of presents and serving possibly thousands of sprouts to guests (not just sprouts, I feel I have to disclaim)... I certainly slept well the nights following my shifts! It was a wonderful experience and I'll definitely be returning.
We weren't allowed to take photos in the hotels, for obvious reasons, so here's one of my badge instead.
Until next year... over and (spr)out!
