Michael, Nathan and Sam met up on Saturday at Thorlands for a lad's session. With the sun shining, all that was missing was a couple cans of lager. Yet, we weren't here for a "knees-up", we had plenty to do.
Firstly, after moving the wood chip from Lilford Road into Thorlands Kitchen Garden on Tuesday for Lambeth's group run, we went back to manoeuvre the top soil. Being slightly heavy, Nathan and Sam filled two wheelbarrows before Michael took over Sam's wheelbarrow to carry all the way back. They filled the old top soil tonne bag with the two wheelbarrows of soil and headed back to lift the bag of top soil (as it became lighter) onto the wheelbarrow, so they could transport it over in one-go. Sam had brought along a trolley to collect the pallet that came with the top soil and wood chip.
After transporting soil, our next task was to move wood, but this time it was just from around the corner. Still, it took 3-4 wheelbarrow trips as these bits of wood will be used as natural barriers for future planters. After this task was done, it was already 13:00 and Nathan had to head to his next session at Brixton Windmill.
Michael and Sam stayed on for the last task, which was to clear an area of weeds using the new Dutch hoe and mattock. We ploughed away for 20 minutes before calling it time.
What a great session - three tasks in an hour and a bit!
