Mission

Don't go breaking my art

2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Camden.

Everyone agreed that another collab between Mrs M, Sevan and Kash would be a great idea. Everyone except Kash's knee. It was fed up with running from Acton to Belsize Park two days in a row and rebelled against the prospect. Because of the risk of injury, the Ealing GoodGym team arrived in Hampstead a bit late but was warmly welcomed by Mrs M, who offered the half-frozen travellers hot tea.

Today's challenge was not much different from the one Sevan and Kash did for Mrs M the other day. Upstairs awaited about twenty-something cardboard boxes, three suitcases and a couple of art portfolio cases to be moved to the ground floor. This time some of the cartons had been labelled as "fragile", which added to the challenge. Those contained Mrs M's artwork. The whole house was full of her and her daughters' paintings and sculptures. "In our family", Mrs M said, "we are all artists".

With the boxes moved securely downstairs and time still remaining before heading to the next mission, Sevan and Kash asked for more tasks. Mrs M had some things to do in the basement.

When Sevan was not looking, Kash kidnapped a little refrigerator and carried it on her own all the way to the basement. Mrs M wanted to donate the fridge to the GoodGymers but it would be too difficult to jog with it in a running bag. After Kash's interruption, Mrs M selected a different manly task for Sevan. She asked for his technical expertise with an electric screwdriver so that she could unscrew wall shelves from the wall. The tool was not helpful because the screws' heads were already too worn out. Sevan already had a solution to that problem: a rubber glove to stick between the screw and a manual screwdriver to create a better grip. If you want to learn more about Sevan's DIY tips & tricks, don't miss out on future reports.

While Kash and Mrs M were wrapping the wooden shelves in black stretch foil, the mysterious Mr M made a cameo. Mrs M mentioned her husband multiple times before, but we hadn't seen him until now. It had been an interesting experience to have him living only in our imagination however in reality he turned out to be an equally lovely gentleman.

When we announced it was sadly time to leave, Mrs M couldn't thank us enough for our help. She has to move out of her family house by the end of January. All the sorting, packing and donating of her things require a lot of effort and strength she and her husband no longer possess, so she welcomes any assistance with that mammoth task. Knowing that GoodGymers wouldn't accept money, she wanted to give us some items she no longer needed. Not being able to take any gifts with us, we recommended Mrs M could make a donation to the GoodGym Charity. We hope she will complete the move smoothly and on time. Maybe even some GoodGymers will assist her one more time before the deadline.
