After tremendous efforts at the GoodGym Olympics yesterday, the Fantastic Four struck again. Susie Storm, Mister Tavtastic, Doctor (Ella) Doom and Human Torch (Jade) took on today's community mission which involved a double whammy of volunteering at junior parkrun and litter picking around Old Heath Recreation Ground after the Nearly festival.
We arrived at 8.45 to be briefed by the marshals for our duties. Doctor Doom and Tavtastic used their superpowers to control the stopwatch, timing all of the hardworking juniors, while Human torch Jade and Susie Storm protected the children from evil cars and dogs and other hazards by marshaling along the route. Well done to all the runners, fabulous efforts and sprint finishes all round!
After the run, we gathered our litter pickers and rubbish bags and set to work around the park. Thanks to the efforts of Colchester Borough Council earlier in the morning, there wasn't too much to pick up but we still found lots of little bits, including endless cigarette butts scattered throughout the park. An hours work resulted in a lovely clean park - let's hope it stays that way!
In the famous words of Susie Storm 'This is our chance to make a difference...'
