Getting to the root of the matter
3 GoodGymers made their way to help the Stockton on the Forest Primary School in York.

When we arrived at the school wildlife garden the part designated to become a wildflower meadow looked pretty leveled and weed free. However prickly blackthorn roots were hiding beneath the surface and our task was to remove them. If the roots were left in the ground blackthorn would grow back making the garden unsafe for children to play. Justine and her friend from the school provided us with forks, spades and rakes sourced from our good friends, ECO officers at the Council. The tools were useful for the task, especially the forks and soon we worked out a method of forking at the root before pulling it out. Strength of our arms has proven to be sufficient for the job and within one hour we have gathered few buckets full of roots. Once the team photo was taken we were ready to make our way home. Carl ran 4km to the Christ Church where he had left his bike on the way to the task and Jon and I cycled together towards the city centre.
