Seven runners ran 5.5km to help St Matthews Big Local
With heavy rain falling throughout the day it looked like a grim evening ahead for us all. We even had an email from our task owner saying he'd understand if we wanted to cancel. Never fear, GoodGym Leicester never cancel, rain or shine! We were delighted to welcome Jen back to the group after her Equinox training took over her weekly running schedule over the summer. She managed to complete an incredible ten laps! That's 100km, or 62.1 miles. Or 100,000 metres. Or 328,084 feet. Wow. Just wow, what a great achievement, congratulations on becoming the most hardcore of our gang! Mel brought back our flag which now includes Leicester on it although it was suggested we should have gone for the Kasabian spelling of LESTAH!
Luckily the weather relented and other than the wind we enjoyed a steady trot over to the St Matthew's Estate to tidy up the borders and planters that we'd planted back in spring. After a slight mishap with the alarm (Huw mixed up the code and set it off until a quick phone call averted the disaster) we got out the tools and gardening gloves and set to work. A perfect amount of work set for us meant we completed our task at 6.57pm before we headed down to the MUGA track for some fitness. After some paired run/walk warming up we put in two hard laps of the track with everyone working really hard. Jimmy managed to pinch Huw's Strava segment record by 3 seconds becoming the king of the track!
After catching our breath we looped back along Vaughan Way back to base where we bumped into Katy who was just arriving for an interview...working on a Tuesday night should be banned!
Mel confirmed that We Run LE1 goes ahead on Friday night, 6.30pm at Victoria Park for a friendly, free 5 mile run. Come and join us if you fancy it.
Next week we're back for our penultimate visit of the year to Belgrave Lock to help the Canal & River Trust, get signed up!
Happy running, HD
