18 GoodGym-ers ran 4k, including a long steep hill, to help Grove Park Allotments with weeding, watering, painting and clearing
On a gloriously sunny evening 17 wonderful people headed to Old Spike Roastery near Peckham Rye for the latest instalment of GoodGym Southwark! With Ellie out of action, I stepped in to lead and was looking forward to a great evening having been to GG Southwark to do this task about a year ago. It was great to have so many people come down as we had a number of tasks to carry out at the allotments.
When everyone had gathered we welcomed Floriane, Katherine and Stephanie who were at GoodGym for the first time and Emma who were at Southwark for the first time. With the weather being so warm and knowing we’d get worked out on the long hill up to the allotments we skipped the warm up and set off. It’s not the longest of journeys but we still worked up a sweat and contending with Peckham’s oddly narrow pavements and the fact that it was ‘bin day’ made it something of an obstacle course.
Obstacle Course
Once we arrived at the allotments Lizzie, let us know about the various jobs – a few plots that needed weeding, some painting for the beekeeper, a huge amount of watering and a fallen branch that needed clearing – and then we set about splitting the group up and going about our way.
We worked for a good 40 minutes getting a huge amount done and then headed back to base!
Thanks so much to everyone for a lovely session and for all your hard work! Ellie will be back next week.
