Lifting and Shifting at Spark
4 GoodGymers made their way to help their local community in York.
- Tuesday, 1st of May 2018
GoodGym were back at Spark York on a glorious May day.
Greeted by endless hipsters and warm smiles, we soon got to work sweeping up dust that had been collecting over the days through sawing, sanding and varnishing, the final touches on this soon to be unveiled project. The eternal layer of dust that covered the site kept us busy for the majority of our mission - our sunglasses from the sunny weather were put to good use.
Inevitably the heavy lifting began as we were given the task of moving some brightly coloured benches from one level of the site to another. This was a five person job when maneuvering the furniture upstairs. An assortment of patterns and shades, these picnic style benches were all decorated by the Princes Trust, a great addition to the community effort behind Spark York.
Of course with a site as vibrant as this, safety is not overlooked. Good Gym were next assigned the task of pitching fire extinguishers to each corner of the space.
The heavy lifting was not over yet, as in true Chuckle-brothers fashion we carried unused planks of wood to storage, along with scaffolding and excess metal. These were all neatly hidden away behind Spark’s fantastic street artwork, created by local artists alongside the Princes Trust.
As we began to leave and the dust settled (again), project manager Sam bid us farewell, “nothing gets done until GoodGym gets here”.
