Not an of-fence-ive weapon
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Bristol.
- Sunday, 12th of July 2020
A beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon greeted Rich and I as we met at Ms R’s home to try and put up some fencing for her.
Armed only with a hammer, some nails and a few strips of wood from a shed door that had seen better days we spent a while thinking and talking through how we were going to achieve our objective and leave Ms R with a structure that would allow her to hang some flowering plants to bring some more colour to her garden. I have to confess that most of the good ideas were coming from Rich!
Deciding that the fence was most likely to tip forward rather than backward with the wire and plants hanging from it we decided to “tuck” part of our structure in behind a strut from next door’s fence as well as adding a support to a wooden post holding the washing line to keep our creation standing upright until Ms R is able to get hold of some fence posts.
Apart from a couple of expletives as a result of bashing my thumb with the hammer, we managed quite well with the limited resources that we had to work with and eventually had our construction in place.
Ms R seemed happy with our efforts and took down some details of what size fence posts would be suitable and hopefully we’ll be able to come back to make the fence a bit less flimsy.

That tarpaulin looks very well laid 😃
Must have had some expert gardeners visit before us 😉
Well done both, it looks transformed!
