The main task today was to prepare for some repairs to the slow worm hibernaculum up on rabbit meadow. This had been damaged by fire leaving a hole in the ground which will be filled using rocks and bricks collected from around the orchard. Apparently slow worms love disordered spaces with random cavities and gaps so the wide assortment of rocks we collected should suit them well.
We also managed to help cut back more brambles allowing some of the young trees to be reclaimed. It was impressive that Martin and Peter could even remember where the trees were in amongst all those thorns.
At the end of the session we were presented with some gifts! We each received a 2023 calendar and a cup of the latest batch of apple juice. Thank you so much!
