A creepy task tonight, perfect for the run up to Halloween...
Four of us met at the Bridge House and ran to meet up with Nelson and Carla at Crystal Palace Museum. John from the museum's trust was our guide for the evening, telling us lots of interesting facts about the old Crystal Palace as we cracked on with our task.
Chunky Trunky
We've been clearing out the water tower for a few months now, starting off with some chopped up trees, then lots of ivy and now we're onto the gnarly job of getting rid of the soil, roots and a seriously big tree trunk which is all sat on top of the concrete base.
Our main target for the evening was to clear the area around the trunk so that someone with a chainsaw can come in and finish the job. Nelson took the lead with hacking off one of the huge roots, Ian and Nick were excavating the area around the trunk, Stephen was snipping and yanking down ivy vines and Carla was forensically digging up loose soil and roots.
It was like an archaeological dig! The photos we took looked like they could be snapshots from Time Team... except they'd have no blur from better cameras... 🙄
After a solid 45 minutes at it, we called it a day. Feel free to come back on Saturday if you can't get enough!
