We ran to a sheltered housing estate in QUEENS Crescent last night....we tended to some fruit trees by supporting them with STAKES, and did some hardcore garden CLEARANCE of a newly vacated flat. Get the pun....yup , this is how I entertain myself.

Here's the run report from everone's favourite Tom Benson...Tom Benson!;

Last night due to a last minute change Shaun worked his magic and came up with a corker of a task. It involved a 3km run to the Sheltered Housing Accommodation in Queens Crescent. We were warmly welcomed in and given our briefing, the task was split into three separate jobs which all involved using our Green Fingers to do some gardening.

Strawberries

Team one needed to plant some stakes in the back garden and attach some trees to them so they were nice and secure therefore encouraging them to grow well. They also stripped back some strawberry plants to ensure that the main plants were getting the most from the soil.

Raspberries

Team two needed to do some weeding of the gardens flower beds and re-tying some raspberry plants to the wall to ensure good growth, this was led by GoodGyms horticultural specialist Steve, to ensure they didn’t pull up any established plants and only targeted those pesky weeds. Both teams then engaged in a bit of general tidying up of the main garden, therefore appearing as good as new to the residents in the morning, lovely stuff.

Dead Shrubberies

I was part of Team three, where we were tasked with going into a currently unoccupied flat to tidy up its garden ready for a new tenant. The garden when we arrived was not looking in the best of shape and therefore the weeds had run riot. So armed with 3 hoes and loads of gardening gloves we set about disposing of all weeds and dead shrubbery, Shaun decided to take this one step further by finding a dead bird. After 25 minutes GoodGym Camden reinforced the phrase that ‘many hands make light work’ and turned a back garden that was full of weeds into a clear canvas ready to be painted, in a gardening sense that is.

Drink and be merry...s

After around 30 minutes it was mission complete so Shaun led us back home. A few GoodGymers who wanted to stretch their legs even more added an extra 1 Km on the route back to HQ. All in all another thoroughly enjoyable evening, hopefully see you all next week for the final Goodgym Camden session of 2015.
