I haven't visited Mr G for a few weeks, so it was great to catch up. I missed his witty quotes, stories and boldness in expressing opinions. Mr G wasn't feeling great today - "terrible" was the initial assessment, but he cheered up quickly as we chatted. The pain was causing Mr G sleepless nights and prevented him from going out, so I was there to do his weekly shopping.

This week's experimentation (or maybe last week's, as Mr G already had a product label in his label book) was buying unsalted walnut halves. Mr G had done another piece of research on improving his nutrition and decided to drop both Bombay Mix and salted cashew nuts. I could recognise myself in the phases he was going through, trying to tame his snacking, replacing his favourite savoury delights with healthier options. We, snackaholics, are still bound to devour a whole pack of nuts once we open it, but hey, at least it's more wholesome stuff!

The shopping mission alone took me about 30 minutes, and then I spent another 30, chatting with Mr G. And, I'm not kidding you, it was 30 minutes of gripping stories! I enjoyed the tales about Mr G's youth and his incredible parents with whom he had a unique, very honest and understanding relationship. They were both war veterans who decided to move on and live their lives to the fullest - and with boldness to live it the way they wanted (especially Mum). No wonder why Mr G has the attitude to speak his mind, stand for his values, and never compromise who he is to please other people.
