Sunbaked for baked beans
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Hounslow.
- Monday, 18th of May 2020
It was the start of a very warm week and the sun was already beating over Hounslow. For my first ever GG mission I volunteered to pick up groceries for a vulnerable gentlemen just a short distance away from my own house. In order to make sure I could carry as much as possible, I took jogged away with a big backpack on my back, which added a dimension to running that I am definitely not used to!
He was unable to write down a list himself, so I took it all down on a piece of paper and off I walked to the nearest supermarket, which was thankfully not far away. To my surprise there was no queue and not many people inside - but some powerful air conditioning. There were only a couple of items that I had to get a bit creative with in terms of substitutions but otherwise I was able to acquire everything he wanted... including many tins of the old faithful baked beans!
After dropping off the items, he expressed his thanks and we had a quick chat about how he could receive this sort of support regularly. I ran off home under the warm sun thinking not of baked beans but of ice lollies.
