Mission

Through Hail and Back

1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Camden.

I’d accidentally signed up to this mission, Clicked the link, ‘you’re doing this task’, Luckily I was able to make it, But getting to Camden was quite a big ask.

The skies were slowly getting darker, As I cycled through London Town, Through Hyde Park and past BT Tower, The sun went and the rain came down.

Thank goodness I’d got to Ms J’s, And found solace in the stairway to her flat, ‘Hello I’m Lucy from GoodGym, I’m here to get your shopping and that’.

Ms J passed me her list and money, And a reusable plastic bag, I waved her off ready to go out again, This rain still a bit of a drag.

I braved the torrential downpour, Through needle-like rain and hail, Quickly get to the supermarket, Didn’t want this task to be a fail.

A big queue was lined up to get in store, Under the shelters to escape the rain, At least it was dryer here, But all this waiting is still a pain.

In line I stood, soggy and dripping, Rain still pouring from the skies, Twenty-three minutes of queuing later, I was inside, ready for Ms J’s buys.

First stop was getting the dairy, Kerrygold butter and milk, green-top, Then a search for white pepper, In the condiments aisle of the shop.

Next on the list were tissues, The extra large Kleenex kind, A double box went in the basket, Okay, what’s next to find?

A hunt was on the the bakery, For her ‘tasty wholemeal’ bread, But on route I found the freezers, And got the ready meals instead.

One fish pie, one cottage, Into the basket they went, Back to make sure I’ve got the Hovis, Now to queue, see how much I’ve spent.

The cashier smiled and scanned the goods, Beep, they went past the till, I packed them up neatly for Ms J, Til her bag was almost full.

Paid for the groceries with a twenty pound note, Carefully keeping the change, Then left the inside of Waitrose, Back to the outside and the weather so strange.

It was hard to believe it was raining before, Now the sun was shining, the sky the brightest of blue, If only this task was a bit later I thought, Then I might’ve stayed drier too!

Alas, soggy Lucy went back to Ms J’s, To deliver her shopping to the flat, Goods delivered, change handed back, A quick thank you and that.

Then off I cycled back through the city, Past Regent’s Park and Tottenham Court, A quick stop for a post-task selfie, Got to have something for my run report!

Feeling good I whizzed off home, Drying off under the sun, Another mission complete - 98 good deeds now done.
