๐ 12 excellent GoodGymmers (including 3 Pauls), a child, a baby and a dog got up VERY early to set up and run the Mile 3 of the Yorkshire Marathon and 10 mile
๐ We welcomed Paul for his very first good deed with us. Hope you had fun and we'll hopefully see you again soon.
๐งท Paul was our de facto leader, having been the only one there early enough (keen bean) to oversee the arrival of our water supplies and equipment. These included safety pin signs and what may or may not have been the finish sign, but no water station flags. So we just had to hope that the tables of water and yellow-bibbed marshalls were obvious enough for the runners to spot and get the hint.
๐ง Our official supervisor got stuck in Leeds so, given the expertise and professionalism that GoodGym York is renowned for, we were trusted to run the water station unsupervised.
๐ฐ We quickly set to work putting out the bottles of water. Ellie came up with a bottle-arranging system to avoid too much bottle-knocking carnage. Leanne did a test run as a runner speeding past and deemed it suitable. The system was taken on by other tables to a greater or lesser extent and we were quickly set up and raring to go.
๐ช Time for a biscuit break and a little trip by some to use the facilities of the Gover household, partly to admire their lovely cat (speaking for myself anyway!) ๐
๐โโ๏ธ๐ In no time, the first marathon runners came speeding through and after that, we were kept busy re-stocking the water tables and playing Spot the GoodGymmer, with much pride and affection for our red- (and other-) topped runners.
๐งน Once everyone was through, it was time to pack up, which was a relatively simple job. Fortunately, someone was on hand to take lots of the spare water bottles to Your Cafe
๐ After a group photo, some of us went to the bottom of the hill to cheer our excellent runners at the end of the race too, with the added volume from the Griffins' cow bells. Absolutely superb effort from everyone, runners and water station-ers - so much to be proud of.
