We’ll Come To The Jungle
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Islington.
- Saturday, 7th of October 2017
Clearing the way Intrepid Goodgymmers Patrick and Steve arrived on an overcast Saturday morning fresh from Parkrun, and were warmly welcomed by Mrs R and her daughter to help clear her overgrown garden that they could no longer manage. Even the staircase leading to the garden was inaccessible to start with, but the tools provided by Mrs R and the enthusiasm of this GoodGym duo soon cleared nine sacks of branches, bamboo, grapevine and brush.
Mobile Soundsystem Patrick brought the tunes and both got to work sawing, trimming and cutting back the vines that had swamped the space. Two rootless bushes were miraculously growing out of the walls! Soon they were making real headway, and by noonish Mrs R called us back into the house for a treat.
Tea and Biscuits Now the garden is accessible and Mrs R so delighted with the work that she hopes a second visit will really tidy up the area and finish the job. She has plans for a low-maintenance space that she can enjoy, which is worlds apart from the garden she couldn’t access until today. She and her daughter treated us to tea and chocolate biscuits (thanks!) and stories about their lives and times in the area.
Patrick’s Hat-Trick Patrick deserves a further shout out for tackling not just one mission today, but THREE!
