15 people ran 5k to help feed the homeless, sort clothing and tins out at Birmingham Mission Care Centre
We welcomed three ‘newbies’ to GG Brum tonight. It was great to see Bhaskar, Richard and Anthony for tonight’s run. Also a special mention goes to our Birmingham Half and Full Marathon runners, who came a long tonight on obviously rather tired legs. We had Chan who replaced his GG t-shirt to proudly wear his ‘Birmingham Marathon finisher’ t-shirt, I have also added his picture from the weekend into this report, he is running with John, who is another GG regular, Chan ran 6hrs 20 mins and John did 5hrs 53 mins, top work chaps! Those who did the half who made it tonight were myself, Rob, Annie and Ken. It goes without saying we were a bit late setting off tonight as everybody swopped stories with the group from their weekend exploits!
On the way
Finally, we got on our way to the Birmingham Mission, once arriving the group were split into three groups. One group were in the kitchen, serving food and washing up. Another group helped Maureen upstairs sort clothes out into size order and the other group organised the tinned food so that it was all in item and date order.
One step ahead
On the way back with our usual ‘hill work hill’ being dug up with roadworks the group did some sprinting up steps in front of the town hall, followed by pushing hard around the corner to some traffic lights, before an easy jog back. The group had 6 minutes to do as many repetitions as possible. Although I said to those who had done one of the races at the weekend, if they wanted to ease back a little they could (for one week only!!) nobody did! Aaron and Richard pushed the pace, with Rob not far behind. Morwenna and Laura worked hard together and Annie looked like her legs had recovered just enough. Bhaskar and Anthony put a great effort in on their first GG session! Once that was done we headed back to 1000 Trades.
Next week we will be out doing good again, it would be great if you could join us sign up here.
