2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hackney.
- Thursday, 21st of November 2019
This morning I met up with Peter for a mission in Hackney for Mrs P.
Mrs P is currently in hospital and would like to be released home. Before that can happen, she needs a space to be made for a hospital bed. GoodGym were asked if we could help out with this.
After signalling Peter with a light display so that he could find me (courtesy of a wand purchased at a recent firework display), we introduced ourselves to Mrs P's son, Mr P.
Our task today was to move an armchair and a couple of coffee tables upstairs while avoiding the perils of a stair lift (essentially, do a stair lift without the stair lift). With Peter there, and the chair relatively light (he often just patiently held it by himself while I took photos and rhetorically asked "what is my function here?" š ), it took mere minutes for the armchair to be placed in an upstairs bedroom (including up and over a central balustrade when the staircase suddenly decided to switch directions).
Next came the coffee tables. Mr P pointed out one of the coffee tables that should be carried up in discrete parts (the table top and the base). Peter and I each picked our poison and it was on to the second coffee table.
This is where there was a bit of a hitch š
With the second coffee table being relatively light (for a Dutchman over 6 feet tall), and both Peter and Mr P believing that the second coffee table was only one piece, Peter carried the second coffee table up the stairs. All good. Unfortunately, as he was putting it down in the bedroom, the table top slid out of the base and smashed on the floor (we suspect weak/old glue). Sadly, I did not get a photograph of the fatal moment (a gif would have been a gift).
Mr P was entirely philosophical about the second coffee table, and asked us if there was any chance we could take it outside to some bins for him (which we did).
We then spent a pleasant few minutes chatting about GoodGym and about Dutch colonies before making our separate ways to work.
Great seeing you, Peter! š
