FoodCycle were looking for a volunteer last week to clean out the food waste wheelie bin. It was being emptied by the council today, so it was the ideal time to get inside and give it a good clean. I obviously didn't step back quickly enough as it was left to me to clean it out. We all know about bin juice, but I wasn't expecting the sludge, and maggots as an extra bonus, or the dreadful pong! But adorned with rubber gloves, I was soon poruing detergent and kettle fulls of boiling water into the bin, slooshing it out, and then giving it large with a mop and bleach. Pouring the fetid water out was more of a physical trial than I had anticipated, and I had to make sure the water went into the drain and not all over the yard, or more importantly over my shoes. I was relieved once the job was finished, and even had time to tidy up the other bins and the bun area too.
