Friday afternoon and a break from work to share an hour or so with Mrs J sharing her recollections of her sister back in the 1940s. It was fascinating to listen to her recalling how as children she and her sister used to argue until they were evacuated from London . As the older sister her mum told her to make sure they stayed together. So they stood together in a hall in Bletchley waiting to be billeted. People came and offered to take her but didn’t want two children but she stood her ground, waiting with her sister until someone would offer to take them both. Hard to believe that children had to wait to be chosen and there were no DBS checks in the people who took them in. Even harder to hear how the second couple who took them in later took their rations for themselves and didn’t feed them properly. But the sisters stuck together and somehow got through it until their parents were able to move out of London and have the two sisters back with them in Luton.

Such an education spending an hour or so with this lovely lady.
